My Take on the Caveman (No Washing) Method for Acne

There was a time when I really overdosed on facial products. Years ago, I would buy a new facial product every couple of days to the point that I am familiar with about 90% of the products on the shelves. There were items that I never considered buying though---such as those with tretinoin and those astringents that promote heavy peeling. I would get thrilled by the prospect of something new, hoping that it would help clear up my face, only to be disappointed again and continue the search for that elusive effective product.

I have read about the Caveman Method of no washing the face probably a year ago. The first time I gave it a try, it made my acne worse. I think this was because I wore makeup everyday then. Months ago, my skin started to act up again and this time, I decided to limit the amount of times that I wash my face, instead of going all out with the no-wash method. I remember my mom scolding me when I was switching from product to product, saying that I am doing more harm than good by piling all these chemicals on my skin. I guess she was right.

This time, the method worked for me. This may be because I no longer wear makeup that much, so I don't really need to frequently wash my face. What I do is rinse it with water while showering. If I find my complexion looking a bit dull, I wash my a glycerin based face wash, but never more than once daily. By giving my skin a break, I allowed it to heal and regain its balance. I still do this up to now.

I do not recommend this method for those who use makeup and sunblock on a daily basis as it could make your condition worse. I guess this could work if you are also willing to give up on the makeup, especially the foundation. I still wear makeup twice a week though and to remove it, I simply wash my face with my glycerin face wash. I no longer use a makeup remover as I only put on a very light coverage.
